Memorandum Signed Within the Framework of the Urbnisi Substation Construction Project
The General Director of the Georgian State Electrosystem, Vano Zardiashvili, and representatives of six private energy companies signed a memorandum of understanding on the joint design and construction of the Urbnisi substation.
The project includes the construction of a 220 kV substation, which will ensure the integration of electricity generated from wind, solar, and hydropower plants into the transmission network.
According to the agreement, the companies will procure and supply various technical equipment at their own expense, while the Georgian State Electrosystem will carry out the design, construction, and installation works for the substation.
The completion date for the construction of the Urbnisi substation has been set for December 2027.
“This is an unprecedented model of cooperation between the private and public sectors, within the framework of which the joint construction of the Urbnisi substation has been planned. As a result, the Georgian State Electrosystem will save up to GEL 20 million,” - said the General Director of the Georgian State Electrosystem, Vano Zardiashvili.
The memorandum was signed between Georgian State Electrosystem, Achar enerji 2007, Gvlevi Windstream, NC Group 2022, GDI Danre, Kareli Wind, and Zephiro Energy.
The implementation of the Urbnisi substation construction project will support the development of renewable energy sources, strengthen the reliability of the power system, and increase the country’s energy independence.
