Bucharest Energy Forum
Zviad Gachechiladze, member of the Board of Directors of Georgian State Electrosystem, participated in the international energy forum Black Sea Energy Week 2026 held in Bucharest.
In a panel discussion attended by Inga Pkhakadze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, representatives of Romania's energy sector, and European Union representatives, the prospects of the Black Sea underwater cable project following its receipt of Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) status were discussed, along with future steps to be taken, challenges, and ways to address them.
In his speech, Zviad Gachechiladze spoke extensively about Georgia's role in the development of this project and emphasized the project's importance for Georgia's energy development, including strengthening energy security, energy connectivity with Europe, renewable energy deployment, and energy transformation.
The Black Sea underwater cable project envisages the construction of a high-voltage underwater transmission network that will connect Georgia's and Europe's electricity systems. The implementation of the project will contribute to strengthening energy security in the European and South Caucasus regions, the development of the renewable energy sector, and the increase of transit capabilities.
