Agreement Signed Between Georgia and the Asian Development Bank
Georgia and the Asian Development Bank have signed loan and grant agreements for the "Energy Storage Battery System and Green Hydrogen Development Project."
The Director General of Georgian State Electrosystem, Vano Zardiashvili, and the Country Director for the Georgia Resident Mission, Lesley Bearman Lahm, signed a grant agreement worth $400,000, which will help Georgia convert excess energy produced during peak seasons into green hydrogen.
The project will support the exploration of green hydrogen development opportunities, practical training in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) operations, and the sharing of technical knowledge with Georgian State Electrosystem.
A loan agreement for $104 million in financing was signed by Georgia's Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili, and the Country Director for the Georgia Resident Mission, Lesley Bearman Lahm. The project involves the installation of a 200 MW capacity and 200 MWh storage Battery Energy Storage System on the territory adjacent to the "Ksani 500" substation owned by Georgian State Electrosystem.
This project will strengthen the country's energy security and create new economic opportunities, making a significant contribution to both improving electricity supply security and Georgia's energy independence.
