Visit of SEL Representatives to Georgian State Electrosystem

Within the framework of the Emergency Control System (ECS) upgrade project, a delegation of experts from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), a leading United States company, visited Georgian State Electrosystem. During working meetings, they discussed ways to study and solve problematic issues, updated scenarios for planning ECS upgrade and expansion works, and electrical and communication schemes. To enhance the resilience of Georgia's power system against accidents, the experts shared recommendations with GSE representatives, introduced experiences of transmission system operators from various countries, and technologies implemented with them in the direction of emergency protection automation.

During the visit, the guests vizited the Akhaltsikhe 500 substation and the Mtkvari HPP with 54 MW installed capacity, which is operating in testing mode and will be commissioned in the near future.

Emergency Control System at Georgian State Electrosystem was first implemented in 2011 to increase the stability of the power system operation and the reliability of electricity export-import with neighboring countries, and its upgrade and expansion has been carried out several times.
