Ministerial Meeting on Green Energy Development
Within the framework of the "Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of the Green Energy Development and Transmission", signed by the governments of Georgia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Hungary, and Romania on December 17, 2022, the seventh ministerial meeting took place.
The meeting was presided over by Levan Davitashvili, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and was attended by Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Peter Sztaray, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary; Dan Dragos Dragan, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Romania; Georgi Samandov, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Bulgaria; and Cyril Loisel, International Relations Officer of the General Directorat of Energy at the European Commission. Additionally, the event was attended by Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Giorgi Gigineishvili, Director General of the Georgian State Electrosystem, representatives from the Romanian transmission network operator "Transelectrica," the Italian consulting company CESI, and the Hungarian energy company MVM also attended the event.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the progress of the feasibility study of the “Green Energy Corridor Project,” the fiber optic cable component of the project, and the future steps.
Within the framework of the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of the Green Energy Development and Transmission, the feasibility study of the Green Energy Corridor was initiated in January 2024. Its aim is to ascertain the technical feasibility and economic factors pertaining to the exchange of green energy among the participating countries.
During the ministerial meeting, participants expressed their readiness to sign a memorandum aimed at establishing a joint venture in Romania, specifically in Bucharest.
