11th Ministerial on Green Energy Development
Within the framework of the agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of the Green Energy Development and Transmission between the governments of Georgia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Romania, and Hungary, the 11th Ministerial was held in Tbilisi.
The quadrilateral meeting was chaired by Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and attended by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov; State Secretary of Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Boglárka Illés; and State Secretary of Romania’s Ministry of Energy, Cristian Bușoi. The event was also attended by the ambassadors of Romania, Bulgaria, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Hungary to Georgia; Vano Zardiashvili, Director General of Georgian State Electrosystem; as well as senior representatives of the transmission system operators of Romania, Azerbaijan, and Hungary, and representatives of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
In her welcoming remarks, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development reviewed the ongoing energy sector reforms, challenges, and future prospects in Georgia. She highlighted Georgia’s role in the development of green energy and the Black Sea Submarine Cable projects.
During the ministerial, Zviad Gachechiladze, a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgian State Electrosystem, delivered a presentation on the progress, importance, and future steps of the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project. He discussed the findings of the feasibility study, which concluded that the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project is attractive and feasible. It is noteworthy that the project has been included in the 10-year development plan of ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) and in the European Commission’s preliminary list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI).
At the ministerial, the parties discussed future coordination issues regarding the submarine cable and Green Corridor projects, as well as the activity report of the joint enterprise established under the agreement.
